Through a substantial power supply upgrade, Virgo II now moves the Performance Series one step closer to the Reference Series. Virgo II now includes the same power supply used for Altair. This supply offers numerous advantages. While the original Virgo’s power supply took electrical isolation to a high level with separate transformers and outputs for the audio and control circuits, the Virgo II supply enables true dual-mono operation, with separate transformers and outputs for left-channel audio, right-channel audio and control circuits. Thus, high demand in one channel does not affect the performance of the other channel. The new power supply also adds additional filtering to reduce noise and improve sonic detail. It is designed to fit directly underneath the Virgo II main chassis instead of behind the equipment rack, so it takes up less space and is easier to install. High-current-capacity Hypertronics cables, originally developed for aerospace applications, interface the power supply with the main preamp chassis. Original Virgo preamps can be returned to Constellation Audio’s production facility for an upgrade to the new version. For even better fidelity, Virgo II and upgraded original Virgos are compatible with our new external DC filter, a component with additional power filtration and storage that fits between the power supply and the preamp’s main chassis. Otherwise, Virgo II retains all the characteristics that our “dream team” of the world's best audio engineers and industrial designers included in the original design. The core of Virgo II’s technology remains Constellation Audio’s Line Stage Gain Module, a fully complementary preamplifier circuit that achieves essentially perfect balance between the positive and negative halves of the audio signal. No conventional balanced-topology preamp can equal Virgo II’s musicality and transparency. Because audio signals emerging from Virgo II are so perfectly balanced, they can use Constellation Direct, a special interface that bypasses the amplifiers’ input stages for superior sound quality. We isolate the Line Stage Gain Modules and other audio circuits inside Virgo II by floating them on what we like to refer to as a “raft”: a metal plate that supports and isolates the circuitry. Audio circuits sit on top of the raft, while control circuits are suspended below. The entire assembly floats on an elastomeric suspension that isolates it from outside vibration, just as a calm lake isolates a floating raft from disturbances on shore. The metal plate also shields the audio circuits from the control circuits for greater sonic purity. Virgo II’s robust chassis is machined from thick aluminum slabs to a minimum thickness of 8.2mm, adequate to block all common forms of electromagnetic interference. The power supply has the same type of construction, which shields the audio circuits in the preamp from the power supply’s electromagnetic energy. Through a 432 x 230-pixel screen and controls on the front, Virgo II provides a comfortable, intuitive user interface with detailed information about operating status and adjustments. A machined aluminum remote control accesses Virgo II’s most commonly used functions. With its upgraded power supply, Virgo II achieves the same seductive, tube-like sound of its predecessor, but with quieter backgrounds, more dramatic dynamics and, simply, more of what you choose Constellation Audio for: The finest sound quality available in the world today.Virgo III / Line Stage / Specifications Inputs 4 XLR stereo, 4 RCA stereo Outputs 2 XLR stereo, 2 RCA stereo THD+N (RI >10 K?) <0.001%, 20 Hz - 20 kHz @ 2V out<0.1%, 20 Hz - 20 kHz @ 10V out Frequency response 10 Hz to 200 kHz, ±0.5 dB Output noise ≤ 20 µV dB, 20 Hz - 20 kHz Input impedance (balanced) 200 KΩ Input impedance (unbalanced) 100 KΩ Output impedance < 50Ω Volume control resolution 0.5dB from 0dB to -90 dBFS Weight, preamp 35 lbs/16 kg Weight, power supply 22 lbs/10 kg Dimensions, preamp 5.50 x 17.00 x 15.75 in (hwd) 140 x 432 x 400mm (hwd) Dimensions, power supply 5.00 x 17.00 x 14.50 in (hwd) 127 x 432 x 368 mm (hwd) CONSTELLATION ALTAIR II Per offerta e promozioni Telefona/E-mail Preamplificatore di linea stato solido con alimentazione separata in/out XLR/RCA Consider Altair II a collaborative effort. It began with the original Altair, created by Constellation Audio’s “dream team” of the world's best audio engineers and industrial designers. Our engineers then refined these original concepts using feedback from our dealers and customers. The result is a product with a more user-friendly interface, yet that retains the same sound quality as the original Altair, acclaimed by a leading audio magazine as setting a new standard “in virtually every sonic and musical criterion.” The front panel of Altair II features a new touchscreen control, which allows all functions to be adjusted directly from the front panel. The enhanced contrast and large font sizes used on the touchscreen allow it to be seen from across a room.Machined remote control An elegant new remote control, machined from aluminum billet and wrapped in leather, provides immediate access to the most commonly used functions, such as volume, balance, mute and phase. While Altair II presents a friendlier, faster interface, its sound quality is in no way changed from the original Altair. The core of Altair II is our proprietary, fully balanced Line Stage Gain Module, one of the quietest and purest preamp circuits ever designed. Key to the module’s performance is the use of servo circuits to maintain a practically perfect balance between the positive and negative halves of the audio signal. To build the module, we rely on our “private stock” of field-effect transistors. These FETs—which, incidentally, are no longer available and are thus practically exclusive to Constellation Audio products—are the quietest we have found, and we assure superior performance by hand-testing and hand-selecting only the best samples from our inventory.Machined aluminum enclosures protect each Line Stage Gain Module circuit from the influence of external vibration and interference. We secure each of these enclosures to a platform incorporating an isolating polymer sheet between sheets of stainless steel. This platform mounts on an elastomeric suspension. The entire assembly works much like a raft floating on a quiet lake, thoroughly protected from onshore disturbances. A machined, solid aluminum enclosure with 8.2mm-thick walls houses the entire assembly and blocks electromagnetic interference.Altair II also benefits from what may be the most precise, sonically benign volume control ever created. Instead of the usual mechanical potentiometer, we use optically controlled resistors that can be adjusted to an accuracy of 0.1 dB. Because the connection between the control circuit is optical, not electronic, there is no possibility for interference between the control circuit’s microprocessor and the audio signal path.Separate Power Supply We power Altair II using a separate, triple-transformer power supply, itself shielded by a machined aluminum chassis. This supply delivers isolated power feeds to left and right channels and the control circuitry, thus preserving Altair II’s fully dual mono operation and outstanding channel separation. With its innovative circuitry and incomparable build quality, Altair II achieves something no other preamp can: the musicality of classic tube preamps with precision and dynamics matched by no other solid-state preamp. Only upon hearing the Altair II can one appreciate the musical experience it. CONSTELLATION STEREO 1.0 €. 13.900,00 Per offerta e promozioni Telefona/E-mail Amplificatore stereo a stato solido (200W/CH su 8 ohm) con ingressi XLR/RCA Our original goal when we founded Constellation Audio was to apply the talents of our “dream team” of top engineers and designers to creating the finest components the audio world has ever seen. According to many noted experts, we've done just that. With this goal accomplished, we decided to see if we could bring the same concepts, the same care … and even the same audio circuits … to demanding audiophiles who crave the state of the art at a more modest cost. The Inspiration STEREO 1.0 amplifier perfectly embodies this aesthetic. It's not exactly the same as our Hercules and Centaur stereo amplifiers, but one must look carefully to discover the differences. As with all Constellation Audio amplifiers, the heart of the Inspiration STEREO 1.0 is our unique Balanced Bridged circuit topology, which combines multiple single-ended amplifier modules in a fully balanced design. Our Balanced Bridged topology uses only N-type output transistors, so the two halves of the audio signal are always perfectly balanced. In most fully balanced amplifiers, the schematics for the positive and negative halves of the amplifier circuit are mirrored, but one half uses N-type transistors and the other half uses P-type transistors. Thus, a perfectly balanced output can never be achieved. Achieving a perfect balance between the two halves of an audio signal is possible only when the incoming signal is itself perfectly balanced. This is why the Inspiration STEREO 1.0 uses the same Line Stage Gain Module circuit found in all Constellation Audio products. The Line Stage Gain Module's servo circuits assure that both halves of an incoming signal are perfectly balanced, no matter what the source. But if the source is a Constellation Audio preamp -- which of course has its own Line Stage Gain Module -- then so much the better. Because you can then use the Constellation Direct balanced input, which bypasses the Inspiration STEREO 1.0's input stage for the best possible fidelity. Thus, the core amplifier circuits in the Inspiration STEREO 1.0 are essentially the same as in the Hercules and Centaur. Most of the parts are, in fact, identical. The main difference is that the input and gain stages are on the same circuit board, instead of being separated as in the larger amplifiers. Thus, while the Inspiration cannot quite equal the dynamics of its much larger brethren, the character of its sound -- or, perhaps more accurately, the lack of character of its sound -- is the same.Given its conservatively rated 200 watts per channel, though, you are highly unlikely to exhaust the Inspiration STEREO 1.0's dynamic reserves. A custom-wound toroidal transformer, feeding a total of 24 capacitors yielding a combined 240,000 microfarads of storage, assures that the Inspiration STEREO 1.0's output stages always receive the clean, ample voltage and current needed to achieve maximum musicality and sonic transparency. Massive heat sinks, ventilated through hundreds of ventilation ports in Constellation Audio's trademark machined-aluminum side panels, assure cool, reliable operation. The Inspiration STEREO 1.0 is the very essence of the Reference-series Hercules and Performance-series Centaur amplifiers, distilled into a more compact and affordable package. Rather than bulking up the Centaur by simply adding more transistors—and losing the delicious subtleties and microdynamics for which smaller, simpler amplifiers are treasured—Constellation Audio’s “dream team” of engineers decided on a different approach.First, we built a superb-sounding 125-watt single-ended amplifier. Then we designed it as a module so that we could achieve any desired power rating by simply adding more modules. The resulting 250-watt-per-channel stereo amplifier sounds exactly like that original 125-watt single-ended amplifier, just twice as powerful.Like the Hercules, Constellation Audio’s top-of-the-line Reference series amplifier, the Centaur uses a balanced drive design, a unique, fully complementary circuit topology that achieves an essentially perfect balance between the positive and negative halves of an audio signal. Other fully complementary amplifiers use different types of transistors for the positive and negative halves of the signal, so they are never quite perfectly matched. The Centaur instead uses matched single-ended amplifier modules employing only N-type output transistors. Thus, an ideal balance—and the best possible fidelity—is achieved. Of course, the signal emerging from the Centaur can only be perfectly balanced if the incoming signal is perfectly balanced. This is why we condition incoming signals using the same Line Stage Gain Module found in the Virgo preamp. Thus, no matter what preamp you use, the signal that the Centaur provides to your speakers will be perfectly balanced. Customers who own a Virgo or Altair preamps, which already put out a perfectly balanced signal, may use the Constellation Link interface to bypass the Centaur’s gain module. The Centaur could only achieve its outstanding performance with a clean, abundant source of power. To this end, we have equipped it with a large toroidal transformer with separate windings for left and right channels, as well as massive storage capacitors and fully regulated supplies for line-level circuits. We designed the Centaur to meet the needs of any and every audiophile, no matter what their tastes in music, what volume they prefer, what speaker they use, and what type of sound they like. It is the first stereo amplifier that simply leaves nothing to be desired. CONSTELLATION HERCULES II Per offerta e promozioni Telefona/E-mail Amplificatore stereo a stato solido (500W/CH su 8 ohm) ingressi XLR/RCA The horizontal format of the Hercules II amplifier made it practical to create a stereo version—an amplifier in the same chassis as the Hercules II Mono, with the same effortless, extraordinary sound, but with two 500-watt channels instead of a single 1,000-watt channel. The Hercules II Stereo uses exactly the same circuit as the Hercules II Mono and the original Hercules. The same circuit that inspired a leading reviewer to describe our original Hercules amplifier and Altair preamp as “the most transparent, detailed, and cleanest electronics I’ve heard.” The Hercules II Stereo cannot quite match the dynamics of the Hercules II Mono, but the fundamental sound quality is the same. The Stereo benefits from the same upgrades we made to the Mono. The power supply features substantially larger storage capacitors, to deliver cleaner DC power and more headroom on loud peaks. The pure copper bus bars used for the speaker outputs and power supply rails are twice the size of those in the original Hercules. Both of these improvements allow the Hercules II Stereo to perform even better with low-impedance speakers. The transformers and digital control circuits are now isolated in their own fully shielded and suspended enclosure, to protect the audio circuits from electromagnetic interference and vibration, and to prevent any vibrations from the transformers from being carried into the listening room.Despite the reconfiguration from vertical format to horizontal, despite the splitting of the monoblock’s resources into two channels, the Hercules II Stereo maintains exactly the same sonic character, the same unprecedented combination of solid-state power and control with the warmth and musicality of a small, single-ended tube amplifier. All of our Hercules amplifiers have been based on the same circuit: a single-ended, 125-watt amplifier design tuned purely for musicality. Each of these amplifiers forms a module. Rather than bulking up the Hercules amplifiers with more and more components to make the desired power rating, we simply combine multiple 125-watt modules. This is why the 500-watt-per-channel Hercules II Stereo sounds exactly like that original 125-watt amp.The revolutionary Balanced Bridged circuit topology used in all Constellation Audio amplifiers gives the Hercules II Stereo exceptionally low noise and outstanding common-mode rejection ratio. But those are just technical terms. What’s more important is that with an essentially perfect balance between the positive and negative halves of an audio signal, the Hercules II Stereo achieves a level of musicality previously heard only in our other amplifiers. The key element in our topology is the use of only N-type output transistors, instead of a mix of N- and P-type transistors as found in other fully-complementary solid-state amplifiers. Because every element of the musical signal passes through exactly the same types of circuit components, all the musicality of the original single-ended module is preserved. All this would be for naught if the incoming audio signal were not itself perfectly balanced. For that, we equipped the Hercules II Stereo with the same Line Stage Gain Module used in our Altair II and Virgo line stage preamplifiers. The Line Stage Gain Module uses servo circuits and hand-selected field-effect transistors (FETs) to achieve the same perfect signal balancing found throughout the Constellation Audio line. If a Constellation Audio preamp is used, the amplifier’s Constellation Direct input, which bypasses the Line Stage Gain Module, provides the purest possible audio signal path. For each of Hercules II’s channels, a custom-wound 3,000-watt toroidal transformer, feeding a capacitor bank with even more farads of capacitance per watt than the one found in the original Hercules, provides a consistent, imperturbable source of DC power. Fully regulated, noise-free DC power supplies feed the low-level circuits. We do recommend the Hercules II Monoblocks for the very largest systems and the most demanding audiophiles. But for music lovers who don’t need the absolute maximum in power and dynamics, or whose listening room cannot easily accommodate two large monoblocks, the Hercules II Stereo can be the path to musical perfection.
CONSTELLATION MONO 1.0 €. 13.900,00 Per offerta e promozioni Telefona/E-mail Amplificatore mono a stato solido (400W/CH su 8 ohm) con ingressi XLR/RCA We're immensely proud of the incomparable sound quality our “dream team” of top engineers and designers achieved with our Reference Hercules II and Performance Centaur monoblock amplifiers. We must admit, though, that building living-room-friendly high-end amplifiers has not been our strong point. Until now. The Inspiration MONO 1.0 amplifier easily delivers 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms, doubling to 800 into 4 ohms. This is power enough to produce incredible, concert-hall dynamics with any speaker. Yet it is the size of a standard audio amplifier and weighs just 55 pounds. When you consider that the Centaur Monoblock weighs in at 103 pounds, and the Hercules II Monoblock at 220 pounds, the Inspiration's ability to deliver incredible power from a modestly sized chassis is remarkable indeed. Also remarkable is that the audio circuits are based on the same original schematics our “dream team” originally created for Hercules. In fact, most of the parts are the same. The output stage uses the same Balanced Bridged topology, combining multiple, small single-ended amplifier modules into a large, fully balanced design. This unique concept allows the Inspiration MONO 1.0 to deliver all the delicacy and musicality of a small single-ended amp, with the dynamics and power of a large monoblock. Instead of employing an output stage made up of half N-type transistors and half P-type transistors as almost all other solid-state amplifiers do, the Balanced Bridged technology uses only N-type output transistors for both positive and negative halves of the audio signal. The result is that the two halves of the audio signal remain in perfect balance because their circuitry and components are identical. However, our Balanced Bridged design can achieve ideal performance only when it is fed a perfectly balanced signal in the first place. To this end, the Inspiration MONO 1.0's input stage uses the same Line Stage Gain Module circuit found in all Constellation Audio products. This module uses servo circuits to ensure that both halves of an incoming signal are perfectly balanced, no matter what the source. Systems that use a Constellation Audio preamp with the Inspiration MONO 1.0 can take advantage of our Constellation Direct input. Because our preamps also have the Line Stage Gain Module circuit, the signal does not need to go through the input stage of the Inspiration MONO 1.0. So one amplifier stage can be bypassed entirely, for a more direct signal path and even greater retrieval of inner detail and natural ambience. The power for the Inspiration MONO 1.0 comes from a custom-wound toroidal transformer, shielded within its own front compartment so its powerful electromagnetic energy does not interfere with the audio circuitry. The transformer feeds a bank of 24 capacitors, each of which offers 10,000 microfarads of storage. With so much energy on tap, the Inspiration can not only deliver incredibly high RMS power, it can also produce breathtaking dynamic peaks.Moving the transformer to the front allowed us to place the output transistors very close to the back panel, near the output terminals. This arrangement shortens the signal path and keeps the output impedance extremely low. Massive heat sinks on the sides of the amplifier breathe freely through hundreds of ventilation ports, keeping the amp cool and assuring long-term reliability. A special shielded channel carries the AC power from the IEC connector on the rear to the transformer in front. With tremendous power available, feeding the same circuit designs used in our larger monoblocks, all contained in a smaller chassis that weighs only about half as much as the Centaur Monoblock, the Inspiration MONO 1.0 clearly deserves membership in the Constellation Audio family. It's the essence of its big brothers, the Hercules II and Centaur-not diluted in any way, merely distilled.Mono 1.0 / Monoblock Power Amplifier / Specifications Inputs 1 Constellation Direct XLR, 1 standard balanced XLR, 1 unbalanced RCA Outputs metal binding posts Power output per channel, 8Ω (1 kHz @ 0.2% THD+N) 400 watts Power output per channel, 4Ω (1 kHz @ 0.2% THD+N) 800 watts Frequency response 10 Hz to 80 kHz, +0/-0.5 dB Gain 14dB Constellation Direct, 26 dB Balanced & RCA THD+N (1 kHz @ up to 90% of rated power) <0.05% Output impedance 0.1Ω Damping factor (8Ω load) 80 Input impedance 20KΩ Constellation Direct, 10KΩ RCA unbalanced, 20KΩ XLR balanced Siganl-to-noise ratio >-95 dB, A-weighted Output noise <70 µV, 500 kHz BW, -116 dB @ 250 watts Weight 55 lbs/24.9 kg Dimensions 8.5 x 17.0 x 19.0 in 216 x 432 x 483 mm

The Centaur Mono incorporates all of Constellation Audio's groundbreaking amplifier technologies in a package that is, shall we say, a bit more living-room-friendly than our 275-pound-each Hercules monoblock. Each Centaur Mono delivers 500 watts per channel continuous power into 8 ohms. This is sufficient to drive any speaker ever made to maximum performance with power left to spare. When you own the Centaur Mono, there can be no doubt that your amplifier is delivering all the dynamics in whatever music you choose to play. Such extraordinary power also essentially eliminates concerns about amplifier distortion. Only Constellation Audio's “dream team” of engineers and designers could have come up with the radical modular design of the Centaur Mono. Most high-powered amplifiers are just bulked-up versions of smaller amplifiers-and as bulk is added, musicality is all too often lost. Instead of following this predictable and unsatisfactory approach, our engineers created a modular design, in which multiple 125-watt amplifiers are combined to achieve the Centaur Mono's 500-watt power rating. The sound is exactly the same as the smaller amp, but vastly more powerful. Along with the Hercules and the Centaur stereo amplifier, the Centaur Mono is one of the few amplifiers in the world that deliver true, fully balanced performance. Almost all amplifiers use N-type transistors for the positive half of the audio signal, and P-type transistors for the negative half of the signal. Thus, the two halves of the signal are not perfectly matched. The Centaur Mono instead uses Constellation Audio's exclusive Balanced Bridged design, which employs matched single-ended amplifier modules using only N-type output transistors. This arrangement achieves the truly balanced output that all fully complementary amplifiers strive for but only Constellation Audio achieves. Those who own a Constellation Altair or Virgo preamp can use the Centaur Mono's Constellation Direct balanced input, which bypasses the amplifier's input stage for better fidelity. For use with other brands of preamps, we provide a standard XLR balanced input that connects to one of our Line Stage Gain Modules. The Line Stage Gain Module, a circuit used throughout the Constellation Audio line, uses servo circuits and hand-selected, ultra-low-noise FETs to produce a signal that is in essence perfectly balanced. The perfectly balanced signal (already available from the outputs of the Altair and Virgo) allows Centaur Mono's Balanced Bridged amplifier design to achieve optimum performance. To assure that the Centaur Mono never fails to exceed expectations, we gave it a potent power supply: a 1,600-watt toroidal transformer, numerous large storage capacitors, and fully regulated output for small-signal circuits. Huge heat sinks that run nearly the full height and depth of the amplifier assure proper cooling and reliability. The Centaur Mono delivers everything an audiophile could want: incredible power and incomparable finesse, in a chassis compact enough for easy installation in most listening rooms.Centaur Mono / Monoblock Power Amplifier / Specifications Inputs 1 Constellation Direct XLR1 standard balanced XLR 1 unbalanced RCA Outputs dual metal binding posts Power output, 8Ω (1 kHz @ 1% THD+N) 500 watts Power output, 4Ω (1 kHz @ 1% THD+N) 800 watts Power output, 2Ω (1 kHz @ 1% THD+N) 1000 watts Frequency response 10 Hz to 100 kHz +1/-0.5 dB Gain 14 dB Constellation Direct26 dB Balanced & RCA THD+N (1 kHz @ up to 90% of rated power) <0.05% Output impedance 0.1Ω Damping factor (8Ω load) 80 Input impedance 20KΩ Constellation Direct 20KΩ XLR balanced10KΩ RCA unbalanced Output noise <70 µV, 500 kHz BW -116 dB @ 250 watts Weight 103 lbs/46.7 kg Dimensions (hwd) 11.00 x 17.00 x 20.00 in 280 x 432 x 508 mm
CONSTELLATION HERCULES II Per offerta e promozioni Telefona/E-mail Amplificatore monofonico a stato solido (500W/CH su 8 ohm) ingressi XLR/RCA
When one of America’s best-known audio
reviewers described our original Hercules amplifier, along with our Altair
preamp, as “the most transparent, detailed, and cleanest electronics I’ve heard,”
we knew our “dream team” of top audio engineers and industrial designers had
achieved its goal: to create the world’s best amplifier. While no one could ask
for more performance, some dealers and customers asked if we could build the
tower-shaped Hercules in a more traditional, horizontally oriented enclosure
that could fit into equipment racks. This is exactly what we have done with the
Hercules II Mono. The amplifier circuitry is the same, merely reconfigured to
fit the new enclosure. The new form factor also gave us space to incorporate
significant upgrades. The Hercules II Mono power supply uses larger storage
capacitors than the original Hercules, so the DC power is even cleaner and
better to respond to extreme peak demands. We also had room to double the size
of the copper bus bars used on the power supply rails and the speaker outputs.
Both of these changes further enhance performance into low-impedance
speakers. The dual 3,000-watt power transformers are now enclosed in their own
shielded, suspended enclosure, along with the control circuitry. The shielding
protects the audio circuitry from electromagnetic interference produced by the
transformers and control circuits. The suspension prevents vibration from the
transformers from leaking into the audio circuitry or into the listening room.

No matter what the source, the Cygnus’s digital-to-analog conversion circuitry will reproduce it with the fidelity exceeded only by that of our Sirius Reference series HD digital audio source. The 32-bit/192-kilohertz DAC easily accommodates the most high-resolution audio files available today. The Cygnus actually contains four 32/192 DACs in a stereo balanced configuration, with separate DACs used for the positive- and negative-going signals of the left and right channels.A DSP-based digital filter of our own design not only achieves optimum performance from the 32/192 DAC, it also allows the user to fine-tune the sound by selecting different filters. Numerous filter profiles, such as minimum-phase, phase-perfect, Bessel and Butterworth, are available. Although it probably sounds very technical, there’s no engineering knowledge needed—just try the different filters and pick the one that best suits the system or the music. The USB jack allows connection of any USB-compatible hard drive or USB stick. The 432 x 230-pixel front screen displays artist/album/track information and allows easy browsing by artist, genre, etc. Alternatively, you can browse digital files through an iPod touch, iPhone, iPad or Android smartphone or tablet. An optional computer-compatible USB input extracts digital audio files from computers then converts them to pure I2S format, with separate data and clock signals for much lower jitter and far better sound than one would expect from computer audio. Five traditional digital audio inputs—AES/EBU, two SPDIF coax, two TosLink optical—allow connection of practically any type of digital audio source device. The output stage of the Cygnus is the same Line Stage Gain Module found in the Virgo preamp, in a fixed-gain version. The Line Stage Gain Module is a fully complementary preamp stage that uses mirror-imaged circuits—one for the positive half of the signal, one for the negative half—for superior noise rejection, faster slew rate and wider frequency response. The audio circuit is built entirely from discrete components, with no ICs used for analog audio functions. The internal construction of the Cygnus resembles that of no other DAC (except, of course, our own Sirius HD digital music source). The circuitry is built on a “raft,” a plate that floats on an elastomeric suspension to maintain a tranquil environment for the sensitive audio circuitry. The top of the raft hosts the analog audio circuitry. Digital and control circuitry is suspended under the raft, and the plate isolates the audio circuitry from interference.A separate power supply provides two separate power feeds: an analog circuit based on an R-core transformer to power the analog circuits, and another power supply circuit to feed the digital and control circuitry. High-quality Hypertronics cables, originally developed for demanding aerospace applications, conduct power from the supply to the digital file server. Machined aluminium enclosures with a minimum wall thickness of 8.2mm bars electromagnetic interference from entering the chassis and affecting performance. As its name suggests, the Cygnus is so far beyond the capabilities and quality of a standard DAC or disc player that it belongs in its own product category. It is sure to be emulated, but unlikely to be equalled Cygnus / Digital file player/DAC / Specifications Supported digital file formats FLAC, WAV, AIFF DAC inputs 1 AES/EBU, 2 RCA SPDIF, 2 TosLink, 1 USB (optional) DAC outputs RCA and XLR stereo analog audio Supported sampling rates/bit depth Up to 192 kHz/32 bits on USB/AES/SPDIF Up to 96 kHz/32 bits on COAX/AES/TosLink Available filter profiles minimum-phase, phase-perfect, Bessel, Butterworth THD+N <0.01% Frequency response 20 Hz to 22 kHz, ±0.2 dB Output noise ≤100 dB Output impedance, B & UB <50 ohm Weight, digital file player 35 lbs/16 kg Weight, power supply 22 lbs/10 kg Dimensions, digital file player 5.50 x 17.00 x 15.75 in (hwd) 140 x 432 x 400mm (hwd) Dimensions, power supply 5.00 x 6.00 x 14.50 in (hwd) 127 x 152 x 368mm (hwd)
